Karma
Freedom from fetters of karma is the pivot to all Indian classical
thoughts and spiritual practices.
Vedantic wisdom declares that ‘karma has
been originated out of Brahman, the Absolute’ (Gita-3.15). Its power has taken all human beings under the
inescapable grip.
The Gita says that none can remain without
doing karma even for a small while (Gita-3.5).
It is inevitable. The Upanishads
declare that not just human beings, even the cosmic forces such as stars, air,
sun, water – all are busy doing their designated work under the supreme command
of Akshara (Brihadaranyak Upanishad-iii.8.9).
All types of karma produce results. A result of karma causes attachment and bondage. Each consequence of karma prompts us to do
more karma. More karma creates stronger
and complicated series of bondage. Thus a
vicious cycle takes shape. A human being
is blinded by the pull of karma.
