Anatomical status of the pelvic

According to the modern anatomy, pelvis is the large bony frame at the base of the spine to which lower and hind limbs are attached.  This area is called pelvic or pelvic region.   Pelvic floor is the muscular base of the abdomen attached to the pelvis. Pelvic girdle is the enclosing structure formed by the pelvis which includes the lower vertebrates.

Yogic terms for pelvic region

There is no specific term used in Yoga denote this  region.  However, in  Sanskrit, the frontal lower abdominal region is called as ‘Jaghana’.  The hind part of the Jaghana is called ‘Trika’ in Ayurveda where the tail part of the spine ends above the anus.

In Hathayoga literature, the anatomical parts specifically mentioned which lie in the pelvic region are— Mula (anus), Yoni (perineum), Linga (generative organ) and Nabhi (navel).

Cakras located in this region are--  Muladhara Cakra at the anus and Svadhisthana Cakra at the navel region.
