Time
Treta Yuga: As
per Hindu chronology and time, the Yuga denote disticnct ages of human
evolution. There are four major Yugas, Satya, Treta, Dvapar and Kali. At
present Kali Yuga is running. As the
word ‘Treta’ means ‘three components’
which are: three Avataras of Lord Vishnu (Vamana, Parshurama and Rama). For
liberation (Moksha) in this period Agnihotra is recommended. Time span of Treta was over 1,296,000 years. Average
life span of a human being is 10,000 years. Varna-Ashrama Dharma is introduced
in this Yuga.
There are four Yugas, namely, Satya,
Treta, Dvapara and Kali, in this order. This is one cycle (four Yugas together)
known as Divya Yuga and this lasts
for 4,320,000 years.
Each of these Yugas has a specific nature in which different incarnations of Lord Vishnu appear. One thousand of these Yugas equal to one day of Brahma, which is called a Kalpa. Lifespan of brahma is 100 years of his time. In each Yuga there is a specific process
of self-realization (Yuga-dharma).
Satya Yuga: It is also known as Krita Yuga or golden age.
This lasts for 1,728,000 years.
During this Yuga generally majority of the population remains in mode of
goodness, virtue and high moral ground.
For Moksha in this time one would like to worship Lord Vishnu. Maximum
life span of a human being is 1,00,000 years.
Dvapara Yuga (also called Bronze Age): It lasts for 864,000 years. Process for Moksha is to
worship deities in temples. Divine qualities are reduced by 50%. Life
expectancy is only 1000 years.
Kali Yuga (Iron Age): Age of fight, duplicity, hypocrisy, fraud—all
sorts of vices. This lasts for 432,000
years. Average life lasts for 100 years.
Spirituality and virtue reduced to 25 percent. Method for Moksha is
Kirtana of Lord Vishnu. Lord Krishna appears in His original and transcendental
forms right from the beginning of this age.
By now almost 5000 years have passed. It is predicted that by the end of
this Yuga people will live for maximum 20 years and they would live mostly on
meat.
Manu+antara=
Manvantara, age of Manu, a measure
of time span of 31,104,000 years. There are 14
Manvantaras in each Kalpa. The present Manvantara is the 7th one named as Vaivasvata Manvantara.
Each
Manvantara repeats 71 Chatur-Yugas (age of the world) covering 306,720,000
years (that is, about 306.6 million years). This includes periods of
transition.
